Lathe Wiring help needed (video inc)

Hi all

My Harrison M300 i just bought is single phase and runs a magnetic clutch and all is good but it runs the reverse and forward off an ancient switch set up seperate to the lathe that was all wall mounted and about 100 years old by the look of it

It worked but I'd like the forward and reverse done from the lever like original but before I get to that point an someone help me out with how the external supply and switches that are completely seperate to the lathe work and what the "sink/bath" switch does as shown in the video

But to do that I need to know how to upload a video as I can only uploads pictures

I would sack all that junk off and remove the clutch. Then I would either fit the single phase motor with a direct pulley and do the fwd/reverse with some contactors or fit a 3 phase motor and VFD.

I'm happy to keep the magnetic clutch set up as it's meant to be better than stop starting single phase motors

What I want to know is why it was being used with them resistors and what the sink/bath switch is doing?

I'm happy to bin all that stuff off but would like to understand why it was being used when it's not needed

I would say the sink/bath switch is wired in parallel with the resistors which are iline with the start winding,which is why you have a softer start when it is going through the resistors as the winding is not getting full power.
I'm not sure why you would do this when you have a mag clutch as the motor should be started with the clutch disengaged and once the motor is up to speed you can engage the clutch and do your work.
Personaly ,I would remove all that crap and just have the original revering switch. I@m not sure what they look like on the Harrison, could you post a pic up and we can work out the wiring then, as a bounus you can junk that box of nastiness,

well wire the magnetic clutch to an on off switch separate get rid of all the crap but u need to wire back in the capacitor then wire in a reversing drum switch or relay contactors

It seems to have the standard forward and reverse switches like every other m300 I have seen

The main power live neutral and earth from the motor/capacitor and forward reverse switch and sink/bath switch joined the lathe wiring panel via the klockner moeller on/off switch as seen here pointing at with my fingers and thumb
