My latest flea bay purchase seems to be an old calor gas cylinder. Theres no check valve on the outlet and no pressure switch with unloader, but with a little bit of work they will soon be fitted. It's only 1.5hp motor but the motor of my old lathe will be going (3hp) and i'll speed up the drive a bit,

then finaly i'll be able to get my drill press working with the old motor the compressor and it's only taken 4 years to get the drill press to run

It's been running for a few years with out popping and it's got a blow off valve
dont know if i'd trust it to 10bar to be honest

but it's worth it for the pump and motor


might put it outside the workshop in its own box

anyhow propane turns to liquid at 22bar

Calor gas bottles are tested to 30 bar. I'm using quite a few at 10 bar.

That actually looks like someone's made a good job of it, it doesn't look like it was made by an amateur.

I love recycled stuff. No reason why it shouldn't make a perfectly good compressor.

The only thing I would worry about is the tank rusting out from the inside. LP tanks would not need any rust preventative on the inside. I think air tanks are treated on the inside (not galbanized as I have used galvanized pipe and it corroded real bad.)

They did install a drain valve for the water?

Yeah there's a drain valve it's 80% there really just a few bits like a check valve and a compressor pressure switch with unloading and jobs a good un.

nice machine. a few improvements and it is ready for use
I used to experiment with (big) old A/C compressors. never finished one, just used them without tank/pressure switch for small stuff. Now i have a 4 hp compressor for the air tools.

can't you degrease the tank and pour in some hammerite paint to coat the inside? Watch out with (flammable) fumes evaporating from the drying paint though!

Thats a fine little compressor unit. I'm unsure, but you might need a pipe with air cooling fins on it between the comp discharge and tank.

Well a little update, it's had 4 years of heavy use every weekend and some week nights and still going fine! Though I did swap to a 3hp motor I had about, added a pressure switch/unloader and waxoyled the insides. Oh and replaced the pipes and added a better air take off ect.
