Le Salvager can't weld !!!

Am sort of working form home today and was watching an episode of the above where he was building a boat from a van roof and a trailer for it from scrap.
There were a couple of things he had to weld and good grief it was bad !!
So bad they didn't leave the camera on it for too long !
A hobby MIG was used and I would say he didn't have enough current on it as there was no pen at all from what I could see, pigeon siht as we used to say about early Jap bike frame welds !
Funny thing he said was "welding is a black art and it might be a good idea to take a night school course, they are normally available in most towns" !!!
Might be a good idea to take his own advice !

He takes some old crap thats cost him a fortune from a dodgy scrap man and turns it in to a set of shelves or something that are only fit for the skip.

Well, I suppose it keeps him out of mischief.

isnt **** penetration normal with a gasless mig though?

ive never used one myself, but i seem to remember reading on here that penetration was one of the concerns of using one.

cant remember who posted it or whether it was an actual review or a discussion.

haha i watched that very episode today!!...

at least he`s in france.. they can deal with it when the sprinkler tube and channel framed, bald tyred, "chariot au bateaux" or whatever the accident report calls it ploughs through some frenchists front wall....

Apart from the pitiful welding, what impressed me most was when he realised he'd drilled a bolt hole too close the side of the channel to install a bolt so he just cut a slot in the channel, right by a stress point !!!

he got better, but its a crappy lil MIG, you see a fair few "farmers welds" and its quite suprising how much bashing it takes to make em let go, of course, when you don't want them to let go................................... the law of Sid.

Welding is just glueing metal together for some folks, welder/fabricators naturally cast a critical eye over stuff like that.

I just cut out some mig welds that look like they "wiped on" and looked cold, but again, quite suprising how much hammer they took to break out.
Often see the welds on gym equipment and think about a rugby playin man mountain cranking on it!!

Last time I saw the man, he was giving out the prizes for the custom bike show at the Bulldog Bash, think he had a stroke few years ago.
