Leakage on compressor tank

A couple of years ago I bought a Metabo 50L compressor new, and it's only had light use since. However I notice that after being left for a few weeks, the tank pressure has reduced substantially; i.e down to a quarter of its auto cut-off pressure when recharging. Is this normal? It's not connected to any external air hoses, just a simple standalone unit.

if theres no leaks obvious from the tank joints its more than likely a bit of leakage on the none return valve between the pump and tank and loosing it back through there

If it's over a period of a few weeks I wouldn't bother I've re lapped NRV's but they wouldn't hold for mins never mind weeks

That sort of leakage is well acceptable, (If it aint broke don't fix it)

There is absolutely nothing wrong with your compressor, its holding pressure far better than could be expected. One point though its not good practise to leave the thing pressured up when you're not using it, by doing so you are leaving the various components stressed i.e. under pressure unnecessarily which could ultimately lead to premature failure of the component parts.

You are leaving it under pressure for weeks, before you know it you will have a tank half full of water. Drain it down at the end of the day.

I drain mine down first thing in the morning just enough to empty the water. I use it daily, so to empty it of air would be wasteful. It's over 10 years old and is working fine.

OK, thanks for the tips. I'll not worry about it, leave it unpressured if possible and drain down when I use it.
