lechler 2k epoxy problem?

im just priming on bare metal that has been blasted with lechler 2k epoxy 29107
im using lechler hs hardener 00362,ive never sprayed 2k epoxy before so im not sure about much, using a devilbiss flg gun at 2 bar with the trigger pulled, the problem im seeing is that the spray coat seems to be going on clear?? its only the first coat and im spraying it lightly to avoid runs but surely it should show more colour?the paint is grey when mixed by the way,the panels have been washed in panel wipe and cleaned with a tack rag,any ideas?

Did you get the lechler tinted (you can get it tinted to a lot of colours) when you bought it. Never seen it untinted myself so maybe the cause.

its grey,as a background to this, i first went to pick up this paint and it had pretty much separated in the can,the solids had went to the bottom of the can in a thick gloopy paste,now i said i wouldnt take it so they said they would get another batch in the next day which they may well have done but when i questioned the store guy about it he seemed hesitant and first commented ''they gave this one a good shaking'' im not sure if they just mixed up the can i have at the moment, and because im not a good judge of paint or the problems with it im unsure. anyway ive just given the panel 2 more coats and its showing grey now but its still translucent in spots,this however could be my technique

If it is un tinted it will look gray in the pot and gray ish / translucent when applied and yes it is hard to see how much has been applied and end up with runs. (Been there done that )
I did wonder if I could 'tint' it by mixing in some 2K solid.

perhaps i didnt wait long enough for the paint to activate befor spraying? i had it mixed 10 minutes before i painted it

It certainly sounds like yours is untinted, Why people sell it this way is beyond me as it makes no sense whatsoever !!!
Funnily enough I was using some epoxy today myself, just had a sump blasted and wanted to stop it flash rusting, this is one coat of black epoxy

That is not your problem.

If it was mixed it would not have separated straight away, It usually takes a few weeks on a shelf to do that, sounds to me you have got pre mixed untinted stuff that has sat around for a while.

great,so its going to be hard to see whats done and not done,agh!!! after 3 coats it looks like normal grey primer but not until 3 coats,its just for under filler so far so im not so angry i suppose

Ask them for some tinter to put in it.

Well thats certainlty not right, I use standard hardener and after an hour can handle it, what make is it ???

so should i take the paint back and get my money back? im fed up with not being able to get quality product in ireland,i got therest of my primer in england and it had a different hardener but have to wait till i take the car to take that home

The Lechlar hardeners are 29370 & 29371, never heard of 00362 ???
What number is on the primer tin, should be 29107

Just had a quick look in the Lechlar book and 00362 is a standard 2K activator not a Epoxy activator, they gave you the wrong hardener.

primer tin is 29107 certainly, hardener is hs hardener 00 362 medium, from 20 - 30 deg c, i mixed 200 ml paint to 100 ml hardener like it said on the data sheet

It don't work with Epoxy, it needs its own hardener. The paint shop your dealing with are dorks, find another !!!

Amateurs. You would think a paint specialist would know what he's talking about eh. Especially given the prices they charge for the stuff. I think you have good grounds for recourse there.
