led lights

im looking for some led strip lights with wide light spread on them

seen plenty of threads on leds but not much info on the spread of light from them

im not too sure which ones to buy height of floor to ceiling 6ft- 8ft

the more light spread the better

range from 2ft dual led light to 5ft single led light striplights the whole unit or just buying the tube and adapt the unit

any suggestions ?

and where to buy them from

I bought for trial a 4ft replacement LED strip bulb, (had to disconnect the old guts) this gives an excellent light all around...it is not really directed in the sense that it has an internal backing that gives roughly a 150degree of light throw.....
I bought white light NOT cool white.....really very good...it's on 24x7...
will be looking for 20 new fittings for the new workshop.....
would like 5ft doubles but can't find any at a good price, I did look about 4months ago and quoted £60-70 per unit.......didn't like that at all........
have some junk 5ft single strips so converted them to GU10 fittings for a laugh, actually worked quite well..used the biggest watt bulb poss. ....bought the bulb connector and the 10mm fitting to hold connector for pence from China....
used 5 bulbs per fitting, yes they do stick out a bit but at 4m up no problem...
not the best but certainly good enough, for concentrated light I use an additional light source esp around the mills and lathes.......
as for where to get ur's....
no idea but as pretty much all LED anything is made in China, ebay or Aladdin ?? direct from China would be a good place to start......
someone said on this forum a good place but they were out of stock so didn't work for me....
be interesting if u tell us how u get on......

I have the 6ft 60 watt ones of those up in the factory, great light and good spread

In the freezers where the roof is lower I used the 30watt ones but more of them... figuring they give a better spread / less shadows / less blinding when you look at them


if you get some get the ones with a milky cover - they dazzle you if you look at them with the clear cover

had a dozen up about 6 months now (slowly swapping over to all LEDs) all working 100%

before I bought a pile of them I bought one to test, had it on 24/7 for a month then on/off on a 15min timer for a month.... still worked 100% so I bought 20 more


the little wires and plugs you connect them with are bit cheap/crap... but they work alright - you can buy different length ones, I bought some of these...

so I could string a few together 3ft away from each other, and then one the ones I needed to connect to the switch I used the same wire with the end cut off (ones that came with the lights were a bit short) - mean I have more choice where to put the junction boxes


I really like them

tried some LED tubes in the old light fittings before but wasn't impressed with them at all, light was too directional and didn't seam very bright


p.s. buy one and try it, see what you think? - I was much happier buying lots of them when I'd already have one in my hand to try :-)

these shots probably show it best - new toilets at work, it's about 1.2m wide and 4.5m long (door is in the middle of long wall)

lights are about 9ft high, 2 x 6ft 30watt, milky covers

the render on the walls is still wet in patches which doesn't help... but you can see there's a good even spread of light

with the 60watt ones in the factory I've got one for every approx. 14sq meters of floor space

for 8ft high I'd go with twice as many of the 30watt ones

We had Led strip lights put in our larders. Rubbish to begin with as all the led units were faulty. The new ones are great, give off a very good white light.

The one thing with the one's knightly bought is what happens in a couple of years, do you have to replace the whole unit if they stop, can you get spares and will these still be available?

no I didnt get one as of yet

it was a customer who wanted one then i think due to price wasnt that interested

i find the led lights a bit dear myself to say they want people to save on there electric

We now have no fluorescent tubes or incandescent bulbs the last 3x 6ft tubes changed last week if any one wants 3 good 6Ft tubes you can collect for free.
The saving with LED's in our workshops has been huge the Hi bays paid for themselves in under a year we have had no problems with the Tube LED's in 3 years we have about 40 0f them mainly from LED hut + 5\6 Lidl sealed units which cost about £15
The flood lamps have been a bit more of a problem but LED hut changed them OK, we have a trade account prices are not that heavy @gaz1

I'd just replace the whole thing - whole this is £25 ish so cheaper than most tubes on their own
