LED Tv screen flickering

Got a Hitachi LED tv, it is 3 years old. Turned it on and there is a fault with the screen. The centre portion , of the screen (vertically) is flickering and there is visible lines right across the screen and there is a ghost like effect, at times, almost like and old tube tv. Light colours seem to show problem , worst of all.
The flicker is not steady, like a frequency. It flashes more like a morse code signal, or a diagnostic flash code. Sometimes rapid, slows down, speeds up again, slows down again.
Attached some pics.
Have tried a reset and software update. Any ideas what could be problem, if it is an easy fix or not worth it?

Have you tried thumping the TV? That used to be the cure for the old cathode ray tube TVs. If that helps, then the probem might be an intermittent connection somewhere. The symptoms suggest that a clock, somewhere in the gubbins, has lost its phase lock to a reference clock, and it's all going out of sync.

The repair / replacement / refund is arranged by the supplying dealer. Under Consumer Rights Act 2015, you have up to six years to bring a claim for an inherent defect. There is no other option really because Vestel* clones are really not worth repairing.

I am not familiar with Scottish consumer regulations, but I believe that it is a FIVE year claim period.

Your other (secondary) recourse is Section 75 CCA, because you DID pay with a credit card, didn't you?

*Almost everything on the market bar LG and Samsung (one or two exceptions) are Vestel clones and exactly the same as any supermarket brand at half the "branded" price.

I had the same issues with a telly I bought from Aldi last year. They advised unplugging and rebooting but that had no effect. They replaced the set under warranty. Bloke on the customer service line said common fault not fixable.

it could well be a cable issue, one of the ribbon cables coming slightly adrift would do it. it may be worth pulling the back off and reseating every connection.

That having been said, they have an appalling user interface and irritating bugs like having to factory reset when retuning. If you don't, the original tuning data remains in EEPROM and is added to until it falls over.

The biggest issue for me with Sony is their unrepentant arrogance that their needs outweigh those of customers' rights.

I have not sold, bought or had anything to do with any Sony product since. This in common with many other businesses and was in my opinion the reason for the demise of all of their retail outlets. You don't try to stitch up your customers, get found out and then do it again without consequences.

Certainly. Another plus point is that I was able to speak to a very sensible, helpful lady in this country when I needed some customer service. So very unexpected but that alone sold me on the brand. However... their sets normally have two legs, east and west but lately some budget models have appeared with a centre stand. The pessimist in me would have me checking to see if the model number had four digits in a rectangle. (Sure sign of Vestel along with a paper label).

I don't know if I'm just lucky, but I have a 42" LG plasma tv that's 17 years old now. Picture is still as good as it was when new.

My Panasonic Viera is from 2011 I think, was eye wateringly expensive but looks very old fashioned and uses a lot of power. The fans are getting noisy now

I got my Son a TV to use with his xbox in his room. Branded RCA, lightweight and feels flimsy, but the picture is really good and the speakers work better than expected. It's a 42" LCD and it cost £160 on an amazon offer. At that sort of price TV's are completely throwaway. The picture on it is comparable to our Sony 49" from 2017 and not that far off the madly expensive 2019 OLED Panasonic I have. It is a dumb screen that does Freeview only, but it is only used with the xbox which has all the smart apps in anyway.

Sorry to say sustainabilty has gone from this situation now!

Could be what was known as a dry joint ? do modern PC boards suffer, and is is even possible to find it and fix it.
I am on a borrowed laptop at the moment, as mine cuts out is its knocked or turned over. I took the back off and one of the ribbons was loose, it goes to the keyboard, but is not long enough for me to get hands in and reconnect, the clamp is fiddly and I am not sure how it goes together.
Might need special tools, so be careful.

The wife, bought the tv, with her debit card. The consumer rights act in Scotland, is 5 years. Had a quick look at , how to go about it. Just got to weigh up, timescale, hassle, earache about it, versus just getting a replacement.

Will probably take the back off and have a look to see, if there is anything obvious. Not got anything to lose, it is already faulty.

Next decision, buy an expensive Samsung or LG , or something at half the price and just have to replace it sooner.

if you take the back off by all means do but even if unpluged they can hold a lot of charge on the boards so be carfull where you poke and where you put any fingers

as for what tv id go with the cheapest you can find of the size you want i had a tcl tv the leds give out after 2.5 years and i think most tvs are the same we got a 70 inch tv at work that only 2 years old and the leds has gone on that thats a hatatchi so a named unit its luck when the leds give out and the bigger the screen the harder it is to repair as the screens are very flimsey so easy break the larger tvs you have to have a jig with cups on them to remove the screen

we sent ours for repair the bloke said if it brakes is not his fault and we have to understand that there is a risk its either the power board £120 inc fitting or if leds them selves its £250 and collect and return in that as well so the tv to replace is 800 ish 250 is worth a shot as it carp now any way if it breaks then we buy a new one

only thing i will say is a lot of tvs what you pay for is the apps on them the cheaper tvs the menus and if you use net flix or all them things then just buy a amason stick you can get a 4k version for around 35 when there on offer
if you only use freeview then check out the reviews on the menus on how fast they are as ive and hatachi 65 inch and the free view menu is sow slow its unuseable but we only use chanels 1 to 5 the rest is app baced and i use the stick for them
