length of leads

I have now done a quick search on the forum but I could not find the answer to my question, I recently bought a second hand oil cooled oxford rt110 arc welder (about 70kg) what I need to know is there a maximum length of which the leads (earth lead & torch lead) can be, as moving this beast is no joke. Also I've heard that these welders can be used as some sort of charger/starter or is this a different type of oxford welder and have I got the wrong end of the stick.

The length of the leads is dependent on the core csa, the bigger the csa the longer you can have them. Here's a thread I started a while back on the same subject, hope it's useful.

If it is an RT110B then you should have an extra terminal for battery charging. If not, then its just a welder.

Correction: 'B' = contact brazing, 'CHG' = battery charger

First project to make is a trolley!

You can have much longer leads on them, but would need to increase the dia of the cable.

Also be aware that you will get losses thru the cable, so will have to set the machine at a higher value than you'd ordinarily need to compensate.
