Letterbox for yard gate.

Hi, Folks, Latest project made for a relative, This post box attaches to the inside of the gates on his Yard, He runs a Fire and safety business including doing in-house training for some pretty big firms,IKEA etc. Anyway he had just been using an old extinguisher wooden box with a slot cut into it, But it is now on it's last legs,So asked if I could make him a metal replacement,And here is the result, Made from 3mm plate,Marked it out in one piece and scored halfway thro' bends with a 0.8mm cutting disc. bent to shape and all corners rewelded and dressed.Letters cut out using a combination of disc for straight s and plasma for the curves including the flame logo,Bought some weld on hinges quite a while ago and this is the first pair i have used, very good quality a pretty cheap too.The plug welds seen thro' the rear door are the attachments for the letters and logo.

Nice job, I've made a few of these, I always put a folded mesh tray in the bottom to keep the post off the base plate, and a couple of drain holes,

I have already told him to put a rack in the bottom and a drain or two, Leaving the painting to him too,I'm taking it to Blackburn tomorrow morning or I would have had it blasted to remove the mill scale and grinding marks etc.I don't think much rain will be a problem, front slot has it's rain visor, and rear door has strips welded inside to make a rebate,fingers crossed..

Nice job Gordon, an interesting one to do I bet, I used to love smaller dimensioned jobs, much nicer than a big set of double gates or similar.

Hi Hitch, Certainly heavy duty, I was a bit peeved having to use 3mm,1.6mm would have been adequate but unfortunately didn't have any,and i had got the 3mm sheet at a good price as "off cuts" from another one of our members.I copied the flame logo from his website and enlarged it to suit the box size.

That is one hell of a post box, the last time I saw something like that it had a machine gun pointing out of it. lol!

It's definitely over kill all round.but was not about to buy some 1.6mm when I already had the 3mm.hope he doesn't drop it on his foot while mounting it.He is shot blasting it tomorrow then painting black with letters and logo picked out in fire engine red!!!

this gate is 100 miles from me, and one free job at a time is enough thank you.!! . Maybe in the future a new gate might be on the cards.
