Levelling Castors Experience

Has anyone had any experience with these types of leveling castors...

Stated load of 250kg per castor, (they make heavier capacity ones), it's for a steel workbench of around 120kgs inc. vice providing an option for infrequently moving and leveling. These are the 4 for £50/ 60 on Amazon etc.
I have an old hydraulic motorbike lift that I was going to build into the bottom frame for moving it around which will easy take the load, but then I'd have to build in some leveling feet as the floor isn't very level and these look like a neat all in one, however... the wheels look like they would explode after 1 second...

I'd mount a standard castor onto a small square of plate, weld on a bit of M16 threaded rod & weld an M16 nut into the leg of your bench, giving you a stronger adjustable castor for a fraction of the cost!

The proper (Liftmaster? Carrymaster?) ones are pretty tough, never seen the knock-offs but I’ve heard there isn’t much between them.

No experience with those sort of castors, although the usual applies - you get what you pay for. Good regular castors to take 250kg are £15 each. You need at least 100mm wheels for anything other than perfectly smooth flat concrete floors.

Why don't you build in m16/m20 levelling feet, and mount the castors slightly higher? That's what i did on my table. I just lower the feet until the weight is off the castors and then adjust until level.

Good idea , I have a heavy steel workbench outside that was destined for the scrap so I took it home but its a heavy bugger to move about in the back garden so its just been sitting in one spot however I had the idea of a cam type lever to lift onto wheels make it easy to move but this seems a simple easier method

Munkul, (overall this bench is going to be 900*1200 with a 10mm top), I understand the principal and have bought some castors, could I clarify the foot adjustment arrangement, I have cut some base plates for the legs, should I cut a hole in these with a backing nut, (I can't see how I'd lower the bench of this was the case, or does the leg of the foot need to spin in the foot plate?), or just a hole and the weight of the bench sits on a nut on the foot bolt I imagine this is not very solid, thanks for any info.

If you don't need the bench perfectly level & just want to stop the bench rocking on an uneven floor you only need 1 adjustable castor.

Are they plastic as they look it, not a good idea for a welding bench.

I’ve got a set of these to go under a small lathe I’m rebuilding. They are all metal, quite chunky, and work for my purpose, which is to allow me to move the lathe about on the table, then drop the feet to stabilise the lathe when in use.

Turbo, I just need it to be stable at the moment, but level would help with future projects I think.

.: the are a cast Ali body rubber foot and plastic adjuster, the ones on Amazon anyway.

I've gone with Munkuls idea I but think his feet swivel and I've bought the stuff to make my own...

The feet on mine swivel in the bases. Id just buy some M16 levelling feet if I were you, it's far easier. And use nuts to thread the feet into.

If you are to use levelling feet, consider locating them so they are accessible to adjust from above. That means you can use a ratchet or cordless impact on them. If only accessible from below, you have to crawl around on the floor with an open-ended spanner.

I errrm "acquired" some a few years back to put under a small VM30 Mill..........horrible, wobblier than a wobbly thing when the feet are loaded. Full of nasty plasticky locking nut arrangements. Glad I didn't buy them otherwise id have been gutted.

I've just bought 4 genuine "footmaster" ones for a 650kg CNC router, ~£50 each.

They look a bit of a faff to set up to be honest but I need to be able to roll this machine into position.

They better be worth it!

I've got cheap ones and think they are superb, but they ain't leveling well not on my floor far to little travel

I bought the stem fitting ones so that the top stem (which is removable) can be used for extra levelling.
