LIDL Parkside metal chop saw

I bought one of these recently and found it quite useful, pity it only has 7 rather than 9" disc. Anyway it has an adjustable vice to allow for angle cuts up to 45° but it only seems to allow movement in one direction meaning I can only cut 45° angle in one direction if that makes sense? Am I missing something?

How do you find the flip up quick-release on the vice part? Mine’s got dodgy threads so slips easily. I tried turning it round so it pushes against the thread rather than pulls on it, but it’s worse if anything.

I’m thinking of replacing it with an M13 nut welded to a bracket. I’ll lose the QR, but at least the vice will work properly.

Way easier to find M12 ,M14,M18,M20
MA thread pitch
Or way better find an old screw type car jack which use left hand trapezoidal threads , they are usually 12 or 14mm nominal diameter and 3 or 4mm thread pitch

I only say M13 as I measured the threaded bar and it seems to be 13mm in diameter. I’ll likely take the bar to our local fixings shop and just get him to sell me a nut that fits.

When you cut a bit of metal you end up with 2 pieces. The bit you want and the off cut.

If you set the saw to 0deg you end up with the same straight cut (90deg) on both pieces.

If you set the saw to 45deg you end up with the same angled cut on both pieces.

Any other angle than 0 or 45 then you end up with a bigger angle on one cut than the other.

So if you want to cut 50deg but your saw only goes up to 45deg you just set the saw to 40deg and turn the metal around.

Then you end up with one piece with a 40deg angle and one piece with a 50deg angle.

You only need to turn the metal around so the 40deg piece ends up as your offcut.

Other than the smaller cutting disc, mine hasn't been a problem. I bought a pack of 9" discs recently and wore two of them down to 7" so I've now got a reserve supply.
