Line boring

Hi there, first post so hello to you all. I've been lurking in the back ground for a while now so it's time to step into the light
Anyhow, does anyone know of erm... anyone that does line boring? We have a CAT 972g that needs all four corners of the steering eyes welded up and bored back to original size and are looking for rough ball park figures for costing. If anyone has information then please get in touch

Not me! Snowy does, but no line borer I believe. Could be wrong, but he's over South East way - not so handy.
There's SRG Welder. He may well have a line borer. Based in W.Mids - Brownhills. worth giving him a shout.

KJ services do that sort of stuff on quarrying machinery around my area.
They also do a fair bit of work in quarries down the M5 south of Bristol. I don't know if you are in that sort of area...no idea on prices though.

H.E.S. based near chepstow, he has done jobs for me many times over the past few years carrying out on site boring and machining, have not got his details to hand but can send you them if required.

SRG was buying one, but I dunno if that got shelfed after the Mrs ran off with half the business..

I know one guy local who works in the London area....but as drains says, thats all a bit far for you....

On pricing it all depends on the job, and know one is likely to give you commitment without looking... most will work on time, as one bore may only need a couple of cuts another half a day....

I didn't think about KJ to be honest, I'll give Laurance a call in the morning and see what he can do.
Has anyone actually thought about making a machine themselves? I've ordered some linear bearings, ground shaft and thrust bearings today-just need to work out how to power the thing

Myself and another engineer looked into it, we even had a machine to copy, I was going to use an old drill head and put a D/C variable speed motor to power the quill, we were however worried about chatter and didn't think we could get a sliding bar arrangement to not create "noise" on small cuts....

In the end we both decided it was so rare we ever needed to in line bore and could nearly always machine a work around it was abanded as a bad job..

i have made a small setup for my mag drill, it will probably do up to about 30mm diameter reasonalby well, (although i have done bigger)
its very heath robingson, and its never going to be spot on with regards to tolerancing.

i only made it to do some repairs for the bucket on my small excavator but i have used it a few times since on other small boring jobs. i have a job for it on the weekend so i shall take some photos.
