well guys i have a bit of a strange question , so we all know we have to have an air supply when spraying 2k paints , but after the paint is put on and we clean our gun , how long before we can take off our masks, in my unit the smell stays around for days and days and after i put my paint on i wait a few min for the mist to clear and take my mask off and clean the gun etc, but the fumes would nearly knock a person down , even when i open the door the next day im just hit with a whaft of paint fumes, are these fumes not dangerous?

You can only be certain it is safe after you know it's fully cured.
I was reading a research paper where they tested the isocyanate release from abraded, newly laid paint from various manufacturers. Obviously some cure faster than others, but the worst one was even several days later sanding dust contained "live" isocyanates.
Having said that, it's probably mostly paint vapour with low isocyanate content. Can you rig up some big fans to get a change of air blown through for the day after? Isocyanate danger aside, the paint fumes will not be good to be breathing.

they guys in the big paint shops use booths and hse states the booth should have the time displayed on the door that it takes to completely change the air in the booth making it safe to enter without wearing breathing apperatus

its not the fumes that's the problem its the airborne particles (mist) that are dangerous, so if you can get hold of a smoke machine and fill your spray area with it, then switch your fan on, time how long it takes to completely clear add a little time to be sure, then you could use that time when you have painted

up until recently, my father never used to wear anything but a face mask with 2 filters when spraying 2k in his booth. has been spraying for around 25 years, doing all sorts form cars, vans and full bikes in 2k, and then custom airbrush stuff with other paints.
he has stopped now and I am due to inherit his compressor and 20 odd devilbiss guns and 30 odd air brushes, when I have space.
I will be buying a good extraction system and a good air flow system before I start using 2k though

yeah, thankfully he has never had any illness due to spraying. his doctor can never believe how healthy he is.
there is a lot of nice stuff there. he has been building his kit up seriously over the last 15 years, and only settles for top quality stuff.
has been teaching me to paint over the last few years, and even though I dont have the skill to do murals or anything fancy, i can make a car look brand new, spray basecoats, metal flake, candy an clear coats so im happy with that
not that i have any space to be painting cars at the moment lol
