Linking two compressors

Hi, I got hold of another compressor and wanted to link the two for the "extra grunt". Is it as simple as a Y connector etc?

Apologies if its a silly question. but "Better to be safe then sorry!"

i personally cant see any problem with this if there a similar size and pressure, if there so different perhaps you would need some check valvesto stop them feeding back into one another

Link them before the regulator, set the pressure switches to operate at different pressures and as Superls says if one tank has a lower safe working pressure than the other fit a check valve so air can only go out of the lower pressure tank. Or just operate them both at the lower working pressure.

I have done this myself and it's not difficult at all.

As rtbcomp says, make sure that one compressor is set to cut in before the other. This is easy enough to do with a quick tweak of the pressure cutoff valve on one of them.

If one of the compressors has a higer output / larger capacity, it's probably worth setting that to cut off at a higher pressure. This way the unit with the highest capacity does the bulk of the work, with the lower output unit supporting it.

The other compressor I got is an Ingersoll-Rand 50 litre. It came with a 1/2" hose so I fired it up today and connected my wrench. What a beauty! There were no problems getting the bolts off, they just flew straight off!
Funny isn't it, when I was doing the job, every tool I had seemed to be weak (except my trusty breaker bar and muscles!), but then I buy a Sealey Impact wrench (24V) which works very well too AND I got hold of this Ingersoll-Rand compressor which tackles even the tightest of bolts!
No need to link them now
