Local source for rods - Leeds

I'm looking for a local source for 6013x2.5mm rods in the South Leeds/North Wakefield area.
Went to Joseph Firth (http://www.josephfirth.co.uk/) on friday afternoon (last minute job for the weekend) and was charged 36 quid (inc) for 5kgs!
I *was* going to tell him to stick them (ha-ha), but I was desperate.

So...
Does anyone know of a reliable, cheap(er) local supplier of bog-standard, "white box" welding rods in the Leeds area for next time?

I sometimes use the odd white box 6013, they are cheap and cheerful and get the job done, But i use a company on ebay, they offer free delivery and you get it in a couple of days, well worth the money

If you try and buy local it will be more expense, they have higher overheads, Rent rates etc... plus not to mention your time driving, fuel parking etc...

I use Pennine on Gelderd Road a fair bit. Best off going in in person, and barter a bit. They will offer their highest price first and you will be able to knock them down a bit - but don't take the P.

White box Murex are about £10-12 a box i think. They may want to sell you them in cartons of 3.

BOC are 5 mins down the road from Pennine, BOC will be 30 odd quid a box for theirs and they are a poor rod.

Can't think of anywhere else in South Leeds.

Another vote for Pennine, I only go to boc as a last resort everything there seems to be twice the price it should be.

Ta very much - I will go visit pennine tomorrow, cos I've got to go to JTF to see if they have any of the 5l tins of red oxide left (£10 a tin last week, when I was skint!)

Not these days. There's only a chipping hammer and MIG wire on the web site and no welding section in the paper catalogue. It looks as if they've decided that the welding market isn't where their strengths lie.

I'm not sure where you'd go now to buy 5Kg of coathanger wire with dirt stuck to it, passed off as welding rods, for a tenner. Ebay has plenty of rubbish but it's much more than a tenner considering the postage. OTOH, there's some good stuff on there quite reasonable, especially if you don't have a good local supplier.

There's always this website (Weldequip) - 5kg box of Siftrode 2.5s for £15. They're not bad rods - yes there are better ones around, but there's also a lot worse. They are consistent, which is what really matters.

The postage is the sting in the tail of buying a single packet of rods mail order.

13 quid a box plus VAT at pennine.
Haven't tried them yet, but considering my last but one box was three years old (at least), and from netto, I have high hopes.
