The way you've clamped the box section in the lathe chuck looks very creative. 
Is that a special lathe tool? I've heard of some sort of cutter that mounts in the chuck at an angle for large radius cuts, but I guess fitting the workpiece in the chuck makes like much easier when you can do it.

The chuck is an 8" dia on a 10" lathe. Too big according to the purists but it works great for oddball work such as i do. Plus it was cheap to buy.
The cutter you describe is a fly cutter and i can use my big square tool block for that if i can clamp the part to my special tee slot cross slide i had made. I also have a regular boring bar the will fit into the spindle for the same job but no pics yet.
The boring bar and the square tool block are my own design and there are plenty of pics here http://groups.yahoo.com/group/southbend10k/ i did all the milling of the slots of the sq block in the lathe.
The boring bar is just a piece of 1" x 1/2" CR steel cut to fit in a 1" starting hole with a round hole to hold a 1/4" sq cutter bit. I know you can't put a square peg in a round hole but i had to be different.
There are 100's of pics in my SB10k group and i had them seperate at another site but they got shuffled around when i moved them and i never reorganised them. Thanks...Bob
