Log splitter plans.?

Hi,
I have been searching for plans for a nice big hydraulic log splitter.
Has anyone found a useful website ?
I don‘t have the hydraulic expertise to select cylinders, engine, etc,
so was looking for a problem free solution.
I have lots of big trees trunks to break down.
I could hire one, yes, but that puts me under time pressure, so not an option.

Can you weld? How big a splitter? Bear in mind it only needs to split not cut. So it's simple enough. Do you have a hydraulic source? This is now mounted on the tractor 3 point lift.
I made mine from a redundant cylinder. Not much to it really.

I was going to say that I had bought a 7 ton splitter from evel bay a few years ago which has handled slices of trunk up to 2 feet diameter, just had a look at the prices now for it. £420 now, I paid under £200.
So I see why you’re planning the DIY route.

Presumably you’re a good welder, it’s bad enough getting attacked by a flying log you definitely wouldn’t want a weld coming apart I can imagine that would be dangerous.

The plans vary ,,, depending on what you have laying about ,, Ive built half a dozen or so , and no two were the same ,,, but they all worked

I had a look at building one the other year, with the price of steel etc, was turning out very expensive. Ended up buying the cheap one from screwfix and building a trolley / stand for it. Must have split about 2-3 tons of wood so far, no issues, works well all for less than £100.

with most it will be a girder build but theres other things you have to consider like lifting the logs and would you like a 4 way splitter

vs vertical or both

Number 2 not only ridiculous, but I could do it faster by hand, by the time he’s farted about winching it up the ramp, ‘timing’ the logs in and dodging the flying bits.

You can buy hydraulic kits for log splitters if you need too quite a few suppliers. But before you buy all the bits search market place for a used one!

The wolfridge is about the right size but I prefer a vertical machine because my logs are 30/36 inches diamete.
It looks like I will have to bone up on hydraulics.

you can have both vertical and horizontal with a 2 way hydraulic ram

ive shown that a system can be used in that way by the above videos and all with a pin under the machine so it can be lifted for vertical
