Log splitter project, help needed!

Im trying to build a 240v log splitter, ive bought a 3hp 2.2kw motor off Steve, thats all good,im just in the process of ordering Pulleys and thought about a 30mm shaft to put the pulleys on.
problem... i dont have a shaft, nor a keyway cutter to put a keyway into it.
So i thought anybody on here able to machine keyway slots into the shaft for a drink?
Im trying to contact a polish fella who knocks up the log splitting screw cones to see if he can make a 60mm cone.

Cant help with the machining part, but I don’t think that motor will be up for the job. I had a 5hp honda petrol engine and it wasn’t up for it. Keen to see if you get anywhere with the pulleys. Good luck!

big reduction gear needed by the sound of it

Ask you nearest bearing stockist about keyless pulley`s , we have some machines with them on and they don't slip.

Im going for a 3 to1 reduction ratio 67mm dia drive and a 200mm dia shaft pulley. Its a 1400 rpm motor at 3hp so i guess it works out 9hp at 466rpm?

was that a direct drive, or a reduction gear setup?

Keyway chisel and file if you cant get anyone local to do it!

lathe can also do it by its tail stock as well as the middle cutting tool

Taperlock pulleys work well. No need for a key

Have an Alba Shaper, and probably some 30mm bar too.

Pretty sure I could bodge something together but it’d be next week before I get a chance, and it may not work

Failing that, grind a flat on to round stock and use grub screws to hold the pulley on?

You can make a key way in the lathe, put the pulley in the chuck. Grind a tool to the right form for the keyway then rack it back and forth with the carriage.

Thats exactly the format im making Gaz. but im making the big pulley much bigger to give it more mechanical advantage.

bigger the better on final drive as the one on the motor wants to be as big as possible otherwise it will slip

I made a cable stripper and the 4 inch pulley on the countershaft to final drive used to slip under load now use chain drive and motor with a gearbox and you can see it rive
