look what got handed down from the "old man" today

Its an old B.E.N air compressor from what i think is the 40's/50's lol but as money is scarce theses days its like Christmas in summer. Been waiting what seems like forever for my dad to bring it home from work but today he appeared with it

I wonder if any old timers out there have any knowledge about them (or anyone really) It looks like its going to need a service certainly. I also cannot find any service manuals or anything online which im not surprised but would be handy.

Plan to fix and clean it up and add a tank capable of general painting, running air tools and all other handy things ive missed out on. No more Disposable cans Whoo Hooo

dont get to excited. they were made for blowing tires up if your in no rush even with extra storage it will soon peter out and take and take ages to refill

I had something very very similar a while back, before giving it away to 'Tigler' a compressor enthusiast. This was before he left the forums.

BS is right that it takes an age to fill up, but very fast to deplete. It will probably be continuous running and wont cut out, so be sure that the pressure relief valve operates.

Didn't know Tigler was gone! Maybe he's just not logged on for a while, like me!
As for the compressor, I wouldn't know - I was going to suggest asking Tigler, too!

would beefing it up to make it half decent mean replacing basically everything on it?

there as useful as an asthmatic blowing down a drain pipe! ok for blowing up tyres but thats your lot. the pump is to small and the receiver is about 5L. the one at work only goes up to 60psi not wether thats what we set it to or thats all you get I'm not sure.

i indicates 120 psi :s bit mad for blowing tyres up

I found this ths celled the pneu-flator seems to be what i have cause on a plate its marked model : PF also found a cateloge from 1934

its still not going to power air tools for long. it might cope with a bit of stone chip repair but will not cope with panel painting a lad at work tried!

On the bright side you've got a little piece of history, it looks pretty much complete and not messed around with. And hey, you can inflate yer tyres too!

Id either keep it as it is, as a little talking point in the garage.
Or, as its fairly old, see if its worth anything to a collector and put what ever you get towards another one.

I have an Aldi special Its actually not bad for the price.

You know after looking at it last night you are both totally right, its pretty much all origonal except the dial and hose, but i know it was used all its life as my dad got it from an old machinist who had it from new. cant expect all componants to last almost 80years

As for the Aldi special, its know talking point i know lol but does it handle the odd air tool and idealy spraying?
