Looking for a particular Electrode !!

Calling all Low hydrogen welders We have been using a 7016 Low Hydrogen welding rod now for many years and thought we would look for another alternative, the Characteristics of this particular elecctrode are ,1 it has a very smooth arc, 2 it has a graphite tip for better striking start up, 3 It requires less amparage than other 7016 electrodes to burn off, 4 the weld apperance is smooth and similar looking to a 6013. 5 the slag is glossy black in colour and is hard and ceramic like.....

Please note I said 7016 not 7018

We have only found one manufacture very close to this but I am not sure they are around now.....


your input would be most valuble .

Thanks for the reply ,I know they are out their I have tried loads of them but I am looking for someone who has used them and can recomend a particulat type , the best I have found are soudometal J50n now called upt.

The lads use them for every other application (in steel) because of their strength and welding propeties !! the closest I have come to them are a 7016 rod made by T&R ..... Our lads name the rods we use TOFFEE RODS As the slag is plyable when hot and looks like toffee when cooling ......

And yes they are so addictive they moan when the supply dries up

One or 2 and some expensive alternatives however got some samples on the way ..

never seen a 7016, whats the difference to 7018(composition wise). apart from it cant be used dc-? (7018 ac, dc- or dc+/ 7016 ac or dc+). info from a rod chart.

7016 has a higher silicone content, thus enabeling it to flow more easily, also the tensile strength is lower this rod can be used on DC+ or DC- and also on ac but not as good. fantastic in all positions , hovever not reccomended on vertical down
