Looking for buggy ideas

Hi all im new here and looking into building myself a small off road buggy.Im thinking of using a pit bike engine either 125cc or 140cc with a twist and go clutch/gearbox and quad or go kart rear axle.

Trouble is i dont know what to use for the front end and steering so any tips,advice or photos of what you have used would be great.

Hi,

I'm designing a low-powered one for the grandkids using a lawn-mower engine. It'll be geared down to around 8 mph so I'm not looking for too much by way of high-tech steering.

I'd thought that maybe a bicycle chain welded onto a shaft with a bike cog on the end of the steering shaft would form a cheapo rack and pinion type of set up. If I picked up a cheap bike from the auction I could cut and re-weld the handlebars to form a 'yoke' type of steering wheel, etc.

Maybe using a motor-bike chain and cog would be OK for a high powered machine?

buggys/go-karts work well with quick action steering, a car steering rack is up to the job strength wise and will be cheap from the scrappies (maybe ) but you will soon get up of 4 turns lock to lock,
have you though of useing a ride on lawn mower as a doner ? loads of usefull bits such as the hubs steering etc
a quick search on ebay throws up a few candiates, one is £25 buy it now, cheap way to get steering gear and hubs maybe ?

Go to your local karting circuit and check out the steering on them it is a simple bellcrank set up.
If using a car rack the morris minor is a quick action rack (it was not designed for that purpose but is suited, the f2 stock car crowd seem to favour it) another good rack to use is the Austin mini you can pick one up from fleabay for £20.
Berrisford can supply a Q/A rack they come in the region of £150 with mounting blocks or you can get one from the states from www2.cip1.com £75 which you can make out in the picture the other pic a couple of stub axles I machined up for a set of Yamaha Banshee hubs I picked up. Good luck!
