Lorch M6060

There is this Welder at a local pawn shop where I live in central colorado U.S. Its a Lorch M6060 of unknown vintage. I cant decipher the panel as I dont know any german. but as far as I can tell it is designed to run on 50Hz. I dont know if its single or three phase though. Can anyone tell me if I can run this machine on 220v single phase 60Hz service?? It looks like a great little machine!

if it is the same as this plate it would seem to be 230v single phase and 400v using two of the phases, and would need a 16amp supply.

Wow thanks for the quick response and useful replies. definitely glad I found this forum! I will see if I can get pictures of the machine and data plate tomorrow. they are closed today. My biggest concern is that is was designed for 50Hz and that would be a costly inverter just to run a unique welder here, as everything here is 60Hz.

Welcome to the forum. I've a 3gallon Ultrasonic cleaner that's US voltage 110v/60hz. Never had a problem with it. Although It would be nice to know what effects it does have

Don't take my word for it, but I'd guess there will be no difference:-

Chances are the wire feed motor is DC (24v probably), so there should be a straight transform/rectification from 230v/60hz, to 24v dc then through a voltage controller to vary the speed (or something like that ), and the welding current will be through a transformer and similarly rectified to DC through tappings.

Thanks for the input! Went by there this morning and the manager had the cover off trying to figure out how to wire a plug to it! So I unfortunately couldn't snap any pics.
@drains I believe your right I have just heard about transformers having different cores depending upon frequency. I am an airplane mechanic and aircraft transformer cores are extremely light on planes as they run 400Hz and if you run them on household power they don't last. but thats obviously a large difference compared to 50<60Hz so I'm probably over-thinking it. I'll Try again tomorrow for pictures. kinda hope he cant figure it out and just wants to sell it off cheap! any ideas what this machine should be worth to me?

I checked with the factory and they don't see a problem with it running on 60Hz.

Its a pretty old machine though, so don't get spending lots of $ on it

Well I picked it up today for $250 U.S. with 2 torches. Hope it all goes well from here. All internals look clean and unburnt. You all have been very helpful!

Matt: Thanks for the confirmation! any help with a manual or tech data would be greatly appreciated. even if I can buy a manual from you. And I would like some instruction on plug wiring before I make any assumptions!

Brown =L1
Black =L2
Blue =L3
Green/Yellow =Earth

Thanks Shox. So for my single phase 220 install it should be:
Brown- 110. ( Normally 220 leg)
Blue- 110 opposite phase. (Normally neutral)
Green/yellow- earth

Might put a plug on it tonight

Hi Jason,

I did try to get you a user manual for the 6060 but they were made long before Lorch were exporting to English speaking countries, so there is no manual in English for that exact model. But the range had a facelift in the 90's and became the M20xx series and the closest to yours would of been the M2060. I can email you a guide for that one, it's got all of same features just that the front panel is laid out a bit differently

thanks Matt your awesome! I would like to have the guide for the M2060 and if its not a hassle the non-english guide for the M6060 would be appreciated.
The torches I got are both ML16 models, one has been lined for softer wire but I would like to get a few contact tips and nozzles to have some spares.
Oh and any idea of the age of this machine?

machine is up and running very well. only issue is the wire feed doesn't even start moving till its turned up over 5 (out of 10) need to put a meter on it to see what voltage its getting. otherwise its great. excited to join the hobby-welding community. Thank you all for your help with this.

does it move below 5 if there is no wire in it? could just be a blocked/rusty torch liner?

nope it doesn't move the roller even with the wire removed. only get 12 volts at the motor. I'm guessing its only seeing one leg of my 110v to its transformer. I will have to find a wiring diagram to make sure its across the same two legs as the arc transformer. I am guessing it goes between phase and ground instead of phase and neutral (opposite phase in my case) any other ideas I would love to hear them.

Also is this torch attachment to the machine a European standard? or do I have alternatives to the ML 16
