Tday I had a first play with a T series Lorch, this is my first try of a true A/C D/C Tig, and I was skeptical about how much grunt the little beast would have, It all arrived in big plastic box almost courier proof, first impressions were the lightness of the machine, for 220amp about half the size of my MasterTig.......
The busy panels quite complex, all the parameters can be controlled, along with factory settings up to a 100 programs can be stored, a nice future is the torch which can be used to scroll through certain parameters and change current settings......
Right down to business no complexity's for this, a simple butt on 5mm, controlled straight from the foot pedal, first attempt no HF ignition, but I soon found out how to switch it on and away we went.....
Hmmm not bad for a dry run, but I was sure it could do better, a couple more coupons and a fiddle with the parameters including setting a pulse up and it was welding much better, with preheat and a bit more care to get the crater fill right and it would be there.....
without two much time to play I went straight into D/C to burn some pipe, I usually do this with a gas lens and walk the flange, but I hadn't got any to suit this torch so made do, I selected D/C with H/F, the rest of the program was beyond me without some serious fiddling time, I found the arc extremely smooth and the tung held its shape very well, I'm not sure however the parameters were set because although I had control from the foot, Top end power seemed to hold, at the setting controlled via the torch, although I did seam to have an end sequence dialed up????....
Finally a quick blast with the arc side, very nice, with controllable force, select the rod amps, volts, strike time and away you go....... a quick couple of beads with a 6013 just to prove it all works....
Now I know roughly how this set works, I shall be looking forward to putting it to some proper use and getting to grips with all the features, including storing programs....... on the face tho, It seams like an excellent set, with pleanty of poke for a small machine there is one bad point tho, the manual, a fag packet would have been almost as usefull......
