Hello,

This is 1 for Matt really but it might help others.

I'm running it off a 13 amp extension. I've noticed on the "amp display", if i'm welding on full pedal, 220 amps, it will only ever read 200 to 210, sometimes less, I presume this is average current and its a useful feature like most.

I'm just wondering if I beef up the power supply will I get the last 10/20 amps? Or is it just because it is average and taking into account me backing the pedal off slowly.

try running it of the mains supply with a short lead . that will tell u if u are getting voltage drop through extension lead if u are getting voltage drop increase the size of conductor of lead on extension

Thats not really an option moving from under bench etc. (well it is, but i'm lazy) it'd probably be easier just testing the socket for a voltage drop. Some machines automatically increase the current pull to give the same output current. While others I guess you just get a lower output.

You shouldnt be experiencing voltage drop. May seem a silly question, but have did you set the welding current to 220 amps on the front control? The foot all the way to the floor on the foot pedal will only give you what (maximum) what you have set at the front panel.

Are you on AC or DC, what size Tungsten etc.

Yes, I set the panel to 220, and foot firmly on the floor.

Using a 3.2mm tungsten on AC.

Have you tried welding without the footpedal, see if you get 220 amps then. Also try on DC at 220 amps.

I haven't actually, to be honest if I did I'd still use the pedal, its not really a problem, was wondering really if the display was an actual ammeter or not.

I will try though just to see.

It is an actual ammeter, but it will display the last 'hold' Amps and Volts for Welding procedure purposes.
