Lorch TT220

Hi Guys

got a couple of questions regarding my lorch TT220

First off, if I set the electrode size to 3.2 on the pannel, no matter what amps I select, the electrode warning light stays on,

its fine on other electrods sizes


second question, how can you tell what amps the welder is pushing out?????
this sounds a silly question I know,

but if I set the welder to max amps, It does not seem to reach max amps.

When I first bought the welder, as you do, I maxed it out to see what it could do.
it feels a lot weaker if memory serves.

how do you test for both of my issues

cant help u on the 1st but u can check the output amperage with a clamp on ammeter

Hi Peiro not sure about the 3.2mm thing as I've never heard that before. Sounds daft but is the tig torch button making causing the current to stick on I2? ( which is factory set to be 50% of main welding current I1) In normal operation if you push button forward you get I1 and if you rock it back you get I2.

When your choosing 3.2mm are you in AC or DC mode? Just a thought but maybe it won't allow 3.2mm on DC as the working range for that tungsten could be more than 220 amps?

Finally, have you tried a master reset?

I use a lorch foot petal and a non stitched torch.

you might have a point about the dc mode.
As I was selecting the 3.2 size in dc
ill try it in ac to see what happens.

I dont have any jobs set in memory. So quite happy to do a factory reset.

How does one go about that matt.

cant say a regretted it one bit.

I'm just waiting for a price , my dealer is waiting for the rep to call him .
It would be good to have a lorch tig to match my m pro mig , that's a great machine .
What extras does the control pro have over the basic plus ?

You won't go far wrong on price if you call truweld in derby or wherever they are.
derrick is a really friendly and down to earth guy.

I got a price off engineering and welding in my home town , they gave me a price to include torch , earth lead and regulator , what torch would it come with matt

Depends if the offered the torch I quoted them or they have done there own. If mine, it would be a WP 26 type 4meter Up/Down torch so you can adjust the amps higher/lower from a rocker switch on the handle

your t220 wants to use above 130 amps on the 3.2mm electrode it will work happily between 130 and 220 amps and your light will go off

the light will come on and stay on at L1 indication light if you lower it below 130 amps if you set l1 to 131 amps the light goes off

same as if you put a 1mm tungsten in and go above 50 the warning light comes on, the machine is basically saying go read the book and see hwta the current ranges are for those size electrodes

as for your current problem it wont let you put 220 through a 1mm electrode but up to about 75 amps

as for the current issue they are also self overriding if i put 1mm lectrode in and dial up220 amps the warning light comes on but also its not going to give me full tap
