Magnet Swarf Wald. My resident witch needs one.

Well ^^^^^^.

For generally picking up dropped screws hidden in the sawdust.

But, SWMLC (She Who Makes Lumpy Custard) would find it useful for getting the screws out of the ash before it's added to the compost pile.

Thought about making one, but what have you got? Where would you get a long magnet, if making one is an option.

They're "good", it's the brand that a lot of workshops I know use. I've got 2 of them.

You could make your own, but by the time you've bought the magnets and the steel rod/tube, you'll be down £25 already...

The Evolution one is plenty good enough. The only time I ever feel it has limitations is when trying to get swarf out of electrical enclosures, and that's mainly down to round things not getting into corners.

I have made two. First is a peice of delrin 21mm bored out with a pair of 15mm magnets in the hole. A delrin plug for the hole, and a metal rod to raise the magnets. A swarf release barrier would be a pain in use and storage so I just use my hand as the barrier. Ideal for cleaning lathe or picking up items.

The second is better for sweeping floors etc. I used a telescopic tubes from some long insert tooling. I put four long bar magnets inside and positioned on one face, with tape over the tube seam.

I am going to make one, I know you can buy them but all a bit too big, so this will be 240-300mm long. I made a swarf pick up tool before which has worked great, so same idea, magnets in a tube, pull them away to drop. Ordered a pack of these 60*10*5 magnets, probably use 4 or two rows of 4 to...

Having had a root around, I found and ordered the 25 mm version of this one.
Magnetic Swarf Pick-up Rod 25 mm.
The smaller might be more witch friendly, I see a birthday present opportunity.
It can go down on the list of great tools I've bought her, axe and bow-saw, they're initialled too, but on permanent loan to me.
Nothing against the Evo one, not sure if these are local ) UK made, I'll let you know when I get it.
Won't be a comparison, as I don't have an Evo.

I have 2 evo ones the first one I got 10 years ago is better made than the newer one I got 2 years ago.

I have the newer version down in the other workshop with the lathe and mill. It works just as well but more plastic to it

Don't forget it won't pick up stainless out of the ash, better warm swmlc before she becomes swira (she who is really annoyed.).
