Making a drill belt cover

Off the back of Slither's thread. There's a lot of missing covers out there, with all the gap bed pieces I suspect, is it worth taking a mould and making one in glassfibre? My metal working skills mean anything I made from sheet would look like sheet.

The mould would need to be of the inside so the cover would sit properly, and that would mean lots of finishing, or taking moulds of moulds and then being accurate with the lay up.

If you have one to take a mold from then why not just mold the inside and outside and pour new ones from resin?

I'm not sure how well it would hold up to an exploding belt but you could line it with mesh before pouring if you were worried.
Some of the metallic looking resins are pretty convincing as well.

Fibreglassing is a filthy job and I can't see anybody paying me as much for a cover as I would want to lay one up!

Or, if it's a common thing for people to loose set up and spend a day sand casting a load in aluminium

If you plan on making one with fibreglass, clean up and polish the outside of the original, release agent etc. Then when you make a copy from inside the mould, it will be shiny on the outside.
