saw this and decided it looks good

but i want to make it into a finger press... simple idea

and bigger..... so i can bend maybe 1000mm of 1.5 mm 5 bar ally

cut the pressing die, and create a top rack that i can bolt tight to hold the fingers?

im my head its all simple

going to see if i can get a proper model on solidworks but am still learning

ideas and active criticism welcome

I once made one to bend 1250mm using a similar design, except it used standard eurotooling from the pressbrake, power was provided by a couple of 10 tonne lorryjacks, it was mainly used on 3mm 5bar ally, certainly not a production tool or particularly accurate, but served a purpose on site when refurbishing cold store interiors, no pictures I'm afraid, it was back in the days when cameras were something you only used once a year on holiday.
you will need a fair tonnage per metre to coin a sharp bend, air bending using a wider vee will make it easier,
This chart is for mild steel, you will need about 60% of the values for ally, but it may help you with design decisions

very nice press brake! is the tooling tap and bolt?

need to find somewhere to get some good springs near somerset

tooling i was going to make myself and then heat with oxy propane/cool/heat/cool/heat/old oil i think thats the correct process

i guess the other solution is a couple of hydraulic rams with matched pipework. got a few 12v hydraulic kits lying about

nothing that technical, just 2 blokes working together on the wide folds, for narrower parts one jack in the middle was ok, as I said it was just a knocked up site tool to save travelling back to the shop for a quick fold,
Bottom beam where the vee sat was a lump of Universal beam, top beam to jack against was a piece of RHS on edge probably 150 x 100 ish, top moving beam was a lump of bright flat with the eurotooling clamped to it, a couple of guide columns from bright round with a bit of sliding tube and a couple of big tension springs as per your example, all knocked up in a couple of hours, forklift job to move it, and when the job was finished it went in the scrap.

awsome, i guess the next question is going to be the frame materials i was thinking Ibeam would be the best to use for the framework?

looks like at least a 30 ton jobby

night make a smaller 500mm one first to get everything right with tooling etc

This is a bending tool made at home with scrap steel, made for bending 3mm checker plate aluminium.

that thing always catches me out and i still dont understand it enough but to me that means being forced downward into a v shape however would you need the same amount of pressure if you was bending it at the side of the pivort area

Do you mean you don't understand how a wider Vee requires less force?

yes and no i understand to have a shallow bend you need the force pushing down into a v to get it

what i cant understand is why you would need the same force to push the plate from underneath to create the bend

however i do understand that those pins holding the door pinion would be taking alot of strain upon them
