Hi fellow members, about 10 years ago i bought a makita generator with a robin engine to have as a back-up in Romania for power shortages, the generator has been a really good little unit-albeit on the low power side- and has been running for a couple of hours since new ! Anyway, long story short it sat unused for a couple of years in my garage and i needed to use it last week ! The thing wont start. Cleaned the crud in the carburetor, blew it trough with compressed air, added fresh fuel and still no starting ! A few years ago i remember my dad mentioning that its not working anymore, since my dad passed away and relatives taking care of the house while i lived in uk i could not blame anyone for improper use !
Changed the spark plug and it fired first pull on the rope however it wouldnt output absolutely nothing from the sockets ! Took the cover for the generator out -one screw missing (!) and noticed that the AVR module is missing altogether ! Probably my dad lent it to someone,friend/relative and they took the module out- either blew it from driving the genny too hard or they've taken it out altogether to fix another one ! Now i am faced with a sweet running motor and a dilema- all AVR modules i've seen on the net are either 2 separate plugs or a plug and 2 separate wires and the one that's supposed to be on the genny has one block connector. The AVR module is a half moon shape, does anyone know if i can cut and gratf/splice in a universal AVR into the circuit ? I know i need to trace the wires from the brush holder and connect to +/- wires but anything else worth to consider before blowing more money onto new parts ? Its such a pity to throw a really sweet running engine...Any advice welcome !
