Manifolds

So I do alot of reading on here, but not much posting, thought I would share some of my welding/fabrication stuff.

I started out making a set of manifolds for my self, then it snowballed from there and I am trying to get into automotive Fabrication to start with and go from there.

And the jig to hold the pipe for the cuts

And the first manifold tacked up, by the time it was all welded up it was a mess and didnt fit properly, so I had to make another one, but I learned alot.

And some of my early attempts at tig welding

Long story short, approx 10 pairs of manifolds later (V6 engine) my fabrication/welds are getting better, not perfect, but much improved.

Onwards, I will hopefully branching out, making some downpipes/intakes/inlet manifolds.
Working on my aluminium welding aswell.

Cheers guys, its all about a foot pedal, a gas lens setup and acetone and practice, just weld everything you can get your hands on. And a small watercooled torch, I now use a wp20, much more manipulatable than the old air cooled 26 I had before.

Thank you very much. It took me quite a while, over a year and a half from the first set to the latest ones. I was teaching myself, but if you had a teacher or someone physically there to give feedback, it would help alot. I was trial and repeated error after error. But I'm getting there. Read loads of books and stuffs well.

thinking about it i may have seen your previous thread too. i dont have one no my brother had an s4 for awile nice car to be in but it was never happy and needed the dreaded egt,s and lambda sensors very often so he moved it on he still lusts after a b5 rs4 . what have you got ?
knowing the price of tubular manifolds for these engines im not supprised your making your own . maybe make a second set and flog them to pay for yours ?

Sorry, jig holds the pipe at a set combining angle, i.e. the angle at which the branches come togther, there is a stop that the pipe butts up to, then using an angle finder, rotate the pipe in the jig to a given angle, depending on whether it is a 2, 3, 4 into 1, 2 collector.
