MAPP gas cost?

Went into my local hardware place as I needed one sooner, and their Rothenberger ones are £30. Went out empty-handed.

It’s a good hardware shop, usually just a few quid extra, but nearly three times the price? It’s started me wondering if the online ones are low quality or underfilled?

Unlike welding gas, which is sold by volume (cylinder size) and pressure, MAP is sold by weight, normally 400g, sometimes a little more. You could verify you are not being diddled by using the kitchen scales.

New online 400g can weighs 850g, so I’ll compare with the other one when it’s empty.

Is there a difference between MAPP and Rothenberger MAPP as there seems to be a big difference in price. I just wondered if the Rothenberger was a hotter burn or are they essentially the same?

Rothenberger's branding and marketing animals cost money to feed.

Prices vary by a factor of two (or more, £30 in the OP) so you would have to research the cheapest source of both branded and non-branded to make a meaningful comparison:

Note the loose language in the fusionfixings description. It does not contain acetylene in the same way that a bottle of gas from BOC contains acetylene. It contains an alkyne or acetylene-family gas.

Most gas is a substitute of actual mapp; propene being the main component.

the rothenberger SDS gives mapp as 100% propene.

Whatever they have done with "Mapp" or "Mapppro" it still runs hotter than propane. Gaz is still in his pit so I am posting this up. Vid starts where it matters so you dont have to listen to the Mericun for too long.

I carry MAPP on the truck for heating stuck bolts. It’s good stuff. Saves having all the faff of OA on board.

I’ve been told a few times that you can’t get genuine MAPP any more? One plant made it and they dont now. No idea how accurate that is.

There’s a few recipes out there for sure and you need to read carefully before you buy

if it was good once , It will be diluted by someone to make more money , it wont work the same , and you wont get as much in the tin
