mask or goggles for glasses wearers

as i am a glasses wearer its time i looked for a decent welder mask or goggles as we all get there with age

i have a pair of gas welding glasses that flip up that fit over my prescription glasses and allows me to see in normal light

i have reactolight lenses within the prescription of the glasses as sunlight annoys my eyes and from reading other posts they use bifocal glasses but the helmet is a pain in the **** with the wrong helmet

from my arc welding ive learnt not to look at the bright light but can still do the welding with the glasses that i use will post a pic of them soon but im swapping over to mig welding and my lenses are scratch so really need to consider a new pair or fit new lenses into what i have got already if i can not looked at them to see if i can yet thoe

probably not much use to you but for others in my situation who gas weld it may be of help.

I wear prescription glasses with bi focals in the conventional position. Trying to gas weld with goggles used to mean I had the goggles on the end of my nose so I could see. I discovered green tinted (Correct welding tint) full face screens which makes it very easy now.

Most welding helmets have plenty of room for glasses (I've never even thought about taking my glasses off to weld), and if the correction is only mild, you can get lenses that fit the helmet to correct your vision whilst wearing it if you don't want to wear your glasses.

The idea of welding with just dark glasses doesn't appeal to me, I once did about a metre of weld (2.5mm rods MMA) without covering my arms and they came up red within an hour. I wouldn't like that to happen to my face. But that's arc welding - if you're doing gas welding I guess there's less UV.

im just a casual welder more a tinkera than anything

i wear my normal glasses and slide the welding green googles over them and when just about to weld flip the lenses down as they are hinged at the top

i normally use arc so i can tell you now ive had some nice suntans and peeling over the face, arms somehow never seem to get it but that maybe because of black/blue roofs when doing the building trade dormers and roofing jobs

i have 2 cheapo masks as it is now and they are slung in the corner never to be used as the lens is too dark and reflects like hell before ive even started to weld with them

my reactolites do darken a little once i start to weld even behind welding glasses

masks i tend to dump them in the corner and that includes air breathing masks as ive taken down ceilings often enough started cleaning up and the mask just got in the way so just never bothered after that

Hi, I am an occasional welding glass wearer. I have a Siflite Auto Darkening Welding Helmet and find that I have no problem wearing glasses.

The only problem I have had was my glasses steaming up, this was cured by polishing them with washing up liquid.
