Matching sandblast cabinet with air compressor

Hello I hope someone could give me help here;

I want to buy a Machine Mart blast cabinet:

Looking for a suitable compressor to run it. Machine Mart say I need at least a compressor
that has an air displacement of 14 cfm or more.

I was about to buy this one: http://www.sgs-engineering.com/air-compressors/100-litre/sc100v-100-litre-high-flow-air-compressor

but emailed SGS first to ask if they think it would match the blast cabinet. They said no as that at a Min. of 8 bar, none of their compressors would be suitable to run this unit.

Please can anyone tell me if there is a difference between that one and this one:

as reading the comments on the Clarke one, it would seem the compressor matches the blast cabinet. I don't want to go against their advice, but I cannot see how the sgs compressor wouldn't work here?

thats a direct drive compressor u will soon overheat and kill it in constant use.even using a belt drive compressor they get well red hot as there not constant rating .the machine mart one is no better .get a belt drive one

Have a look at MM range of Clarke SE16 compressors, good buy on a VAT free day.

sorry to jlsones for jumping into post,.... i picked up one of these cabinets today, £39.99 + vat (£47.99), work area is 18"x 22"x 11", air pressure is 100psi, comes with 12vdc fluorescent lamp, blasting gun, gloves and screen, unit feels well built, weight is 18kgs, will be ok for me for just fafing about, screwfix have them at £131 inc vat (same model) and some one ebay at £149 (same model) so hopefully bagged a bargain, thanks to compo simmonite for the heads up,
noticed when walking round jtf that their prices in big numbers are excl vat, then underneath in smaller numbers is the total inc vat, just something to be aware of,

These are a good buy if space is not an issue, just remember to caulk the joints before you put it together. I will second the need for a belt drive compressor - the bigger the better.

With air compressors most manufacturers tell you what the displacment is, say 14 cfm, now this is the volume of air that goes in through the air filter. Nice high number. In reality the number you need to match your air tools, users, blast cabinet etc to is the free air delivery, most manufactureres dont quote this. Roughly speaking 14 cfm compressed to 8 bars ish would give you a free air delivery of about 9.5 cfm depending on temprature and humidity.

So if your blast cabinet needs an air supply of 10 cfm of free air you really need a compressor thall give you more than that or it will run continuously while you blast and get very hot. Once you start to go over 3 hp, your into bigger electrical supplies round blue plugs and such.
