Just made and fitted new set of quill feed handles as the original ones were missing.

I've already fitted another 3ph motor and a vfd so I can vari the spindle speed

I might even give it a paraffin n paint overhaul.

Think I might have answered my own question.

Was doing a bit in the garage tonight, made a new top nut for the QC toolpost with a handle so I can quickly swivel the toolpost, guess what the handle is from

Yep 1967 according to Meddings.
They even emailed me the parts list and some other info. It's been obsolete parts wise for years but being built properly it's still has years of life left in it

I removed the original 415volt 2 speed motor, in favour of a 3hp 3 x 220volt motor and a vfd.

Anyone who looking for a 415v 2hp 2 speed motor (1440/720 rpm) can message me.

Just out of interest, why would you fit a VFD to a drill that already has a variable speed CVT? Just for the larger range of speeds top and bottom?

I'm on with sorting the switchgear on my brother's new (to him) Pollard Corona geared head drill, the motor is fine but the fwd/rev switch and the mechanical start/stop switches are goosed.
Older drills are awesome.

The M7 was available with a single speed motor, a 2 speed motor (my one) and a 2 speed drill with thread tapping capability...

So I can now run this off of a 13amp 3 pin socket, total variable speed from 0 rpm to about 1600+ rpm, reverse for drilling out broken bolts and jog function for thread tapping. Plus having fitted a 3hp motor instead of a 2hp motor a bit more grunt.

And all for the price of a cheap vfd and a s/hand motor...

That's another reason why I used a vfd, the wiring needed some attention as well as the switches and contactors, plus Meddings couldn't supply a wiring diagram for the 2 speed version. It was just easier to go down the vfd route.

You're lucky Meddings were able to provide information on your drill. I have been trying to find out more about my Meddings hacksaw and even Meddings don't seem to know about it. https://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/threads/meddings-power-hacksaw-query.89933/
Mind you they made many more drills than hacksaws!

Poking around the Meddings site, I found a list of their old machines, so might be worth you having a look, there is a hacksaw listed but I don't know if its yours.

When I first phoned Meddings and spoke to the parts/sales woman she informed me they never made a M7 drill stand.

I then pointed out her mistake, plus their web page details, she took my email address and a couple of days later I received a phone call saying she had emailed all the information she could find.

Considering she probably only knows the current range of drill stand and common other models, I think their service is impressive.

It's the missing knobs that make me wonder if some bored git unscrewed them to roll them around the workshop.
I think I'll pick up a snooker / pool ball and make one.
