Hi, first post so here it goes.

Recently I was fortunate enough to buy this drill from a local farm(hence the straw on the floor in the pictures). The drill comes with a single phase 1/2hp motor which I doubt is the original, and it seems when they replaced the motor they didn't bother wiring in the reverse. I would like to restore the drill so that everything works as it should. Any help or advice on how to go about rewiring the switch/motor if it's at all even possible would be much appreciated.


















On the motor it says to swap over the blue leads in motor terminal to reverse, so would it just be a case of wiring them to the switch??

Also I'm missing the high/low gear lever and cover, if anyone knows of one.

This question has been asked a few times, you should come up with something if you do a search. Is there a chance of a larger picture of the connections? Make & model of motor may help. Is there anything on the motor body which might indicate how it's wired? Does it still have the original switch?

First off welcome, now the drill and the reversing switch was most likely originally 3 phase, witch I easy to reverse. Depending on your single phase motor it can very difficult to reverse, looking at your picture there is only 2 terminals. You may have to go digging inside the motor to find the other connections you will need.

I'm abit of a perfectionist and it's really annoying me that it doesn't work.
It does look like the original switch, the motor is made by English electrical company.

From looking at the pictures I think to reverse that motor you'll need to take two wires from the blue leads to a switch and two wires from the switch back to the motor, mains to the switch.

The original three phase sw might do it you'll have to bell out the switch to find a change over function.

I thought thats what I might have to do. The wires on the motor have gone brittle and hard, so I best replace them anyway.

I'm pretty sure it's the original switch, I'll have a better look in the morning.
