Have read on here and other sites about using glass for blasting instead of copper slag.

Cost of a tonne of glass appears to be £160 ish compared to ... £xxx (anyone know cost of a tonne of supafine?) + delivery of the pallet (again anyone have an idea of cost?)

Now.............

I understand that although jfine is expendable it can be used a few times whereas i guess glass can not.
What is the cost of disposal of a tonne of slag as i see it constitutes a hazardous waste so no doubt will be a few quid to get rif of it.

I am trying to work out the costings

ie a Tonne of single use glass v a Tonne of supafine used 3 times + hazardous waste disposal fee

to see which is the cheaper/ist option.

Any 'performance' issues ie glass being better/worst? Is it easier on the nozzles giving them an extended useage life?

I've used glass grit several times over. I think it's slightly more aggressive than copper slag and it can embed in softer metals. You've really got to cost your nozzles, fittings and pipes against the amount of paint shifted rather than the properties of the grit, if it shifts paint more quickly it will also wear nozzles &c more quickly.

I've built a screening machine to sieve used grit to make sure I get every last ounce of use out of it.

From my research the correct way to dispose of used grit is to double bag it and send it to landfill. Mine goes in a skip in the usual way (but double bagged).

There may be special rules if you are blasting items coated with lead based paint.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but while you are on the topic of blasting what would be the medium of choice to blast a rusty scooter frame and roughly how much would it cost me to have it done? I have a Lambretta frame which I want to bast but it is a bit thin in places and will defo need some welding but I want to preserve as much as possible.

j blast superfine . if it blows holes in it the metals knacked anyhow and needs welding u can shotblast a 1 gallon can no probs without going through and they are quite thin

Which particular medium is it? When I clicked the link I got a "session timed out" message.

That sounds cheap at 12.2p per kilo, are you confusing Euros with GBP? I normally pay £5.50 + VAT for 25 Kilos, collected, that's priced by the bag rather than the pallet load.

its the top left window from 18p/KG "Blast Material - One Way - Sharp Edged" (obviously cheaper in bulk and free delivery!!)

the one next to it is descibed as "Blast Material - One Way - Melting Chamber Slag "Exelent Grit" - Edged" and starts at 55p/kg for smaller quantities (again cheaper in bulk)

If you read the description of the cheaper stuff it looks the same (ish) and is described as copper slag from smelting process (or summink like that)

difference between the cheaper 18p one and 55p one? tried to understand spec sheets and where it originated from and still looks like copper slag/jblast to my uneducated head

Couldnt believe prices- free delivery from europe

IIRC they are based in Rostock so maybe it is cheap stuff sourced from Poland/Baltics that is bought in by boat and sold on?

Double bag it and hire a skip then if my local council/waste people are happy?

It's really try and error when starting out, try the cheapest first and see how it goes.

They've probably got a depot over here, what lead times do they quote?

You could always ask your local environmental health bods for advice. Get it in writing.

When I got a visit from Health & Safety they wanted to know what media I used and what sort of helmet, they didn't mention disposal. The skip people were quite happy and it's their ultimate responsibility for proper disposal.

did you contact them about this media I have and they are quoting £555 delivery to the uk for 2 ton..
