Hi Folks,
Just finished her off this evening.....



She is just over a foot long claw to tail and all steel, mostly MIGed together but the eyes and tentacles are TIG brazed. I had a bit of fun with the eyes. I decided to use ball bearings so drilled some small holes to locate them - I thought I would be able to heat the balls up and then just drop some braze (SIFbronze No 8) over them but the balls melted and ran through the holes. Of course, once that had happened the part filled holes were too hard to drill so I had to flat some balls off and have another go, playing most of the heat on the plate. I should have had a practice!

Nice one.This shows that you have got an eye for this nonsense.
The eyes have it, they are always a make or break thing.
The legs and claws are damn fine, their is a nicely abstract thing about it. Which avoids it looking cute or mass produced.
Wifey likes it as well.

You might not find it as hard as you think. I printed out some anatomical pictures off the web and spent a while thinking about it before making a start. One of the things I like about metal sculpture is that things seem to come to life fairly quickly once you get going.

If you fancy a go try starting out with something fairly simple first.

I'm fairly new to it all, having spent a very useful day with Chunko' last springtime.

Really nice job. Looks very clean. I use ball bearings for eyes too sometimes. Bit of a challenge...

Eyes? fitting ball bearings I have struggled with this in the past, then I just spotted a way that would work in the lobster.
Drill holes that the bearings will sit in, then clamp and spot weld them in from the bottom. All the welds are concealed.
