I was asked to make a memorial to a young woman called 'Bee' as a family nickname.
The family wanted a sculpture of a bee to go on her gravestone.
A lot of emails went to and fro before we finalised the design.
In the end they wanted the bee sat on a daisy, which conveniently I had hanging on my wall. They wanted a low maintenence finish so I suggested rusting the body and fitting it with stainless steel wings to bring a bit of light to it.
Shown here both sunlit and in the rain.
I wanted it to be tamper proof so it is a solidly mounted onto a length of threaded bar that will be resin fixed to a slab of granite, and the wings are mounted at several points to stop lowlifes pulling them off when they find they cant pinch it.
