metal air pipe?

Does anyone know the proper name for the large gas steel piping most workshops use for large compressors? (also a good price to get that and all the tee's and elbows cheap) looking for 1/2 inch dia to go from my compressor , around and into my spray booth in a few points and also run across the roof to the other end of the shop (i have a 35cfm compressor so it will power it all)

getting to much of a pressure drop running my airfed and devilbiss gun through 1/4 pipe from the compressor, would be nice to add a good few drop legs in the line to the booth to get some more moisture out before it hits the filter.

Bsp water pipe! If the supplier doesn't know what that is about turn and leave

Galvanised pipe and fitting is the norm for compressed air but there are plastic options. Prices can get scary when you start looking at doing a decent job.

Don't forget you will have to cut and thread the pipe so would also need to get hold of a pipe threader.

3 meter lengths, the plastic stuff is only marginally cheaper ( no good on the booth as it bakes at 60c), the fittings are the same price as the metal versions (seem to be 10 a penny on ebay for the metal ones)

off to see my metal fab guy tomorrow and see what he has laying around in his shop, he sold me 16 galv steel sheets to make up the entire booth wall for £6.50 per sheet ( it was watermarked slightly but they were 4.5 foot by 6.3 foot and at £6.50 a pop they were a bargain)

better go see how much the tool to cut the pipe ends is going to cost, got a feeling it will cost as much as 15 meters of pipe :lol:

I think we paid £20 for 7.5m 1 1/2 steel pipe in red oxy finished other month at work that was the screw together type with Malible bends etc

was youtubeing and saw a few videos of people putting an air-con condenser rad between the exhaust port of the compressor and then having it run into the tank (ie -air out of cylinder, into condenser, then into check valve into tank) my main pulley on the Ingersoll rand is bladed and shifts some serious air over the head, think it might be worth plumbing one up infront of the fan on the grille and using it as a pre water/air separator before hitting the tank and all the steel pipe work?

i have been offered a compressed air dryer for £150 but it needs re-gassing and i am told these wont remove all moisture from the lines subject to what the dew point is of the air going in (ie; has to be cool for it to work properly)

Bloody hell, mk. I paid £20 for 6m of 1/2" red band about 5 years ago. Prices must have gone down since!

When you pipe it up make sure your take off 'drop pipes ' are tee'd' up IE come off the top of the main pipe then turn down through 180degs , put a downward tee drop at begining and the end of the line with just taps on the ends to drain the water out, it makes the job harder but it helps stop the moisture flowing down to your flexy air lines with the air flow , the condensed water will run along the main and then down to the taps, where it can be blasted out every now and then.

Bes plumbing is a good place to get fittings, cheap, you don't have to buy packs of 10 and they seem to sell every type of fitting ever made

Just adding to the above sound advice, think of the start and finish as guttering and have a fall on the pipework from the first tee to the last so the water can run out with the air flow.

I had intended to include that, but went back in to modify my ramblings and it clean went out my mind ( not unusual nowadays ) hard to remember whether, I said it,done it, or dreamt it!!
