Metal forming for beginers

ive recently been getting quite interested by metal forming and quite like to have a go at my version of the fish in the picture.

Can't anyone point me in the direction of some more reading, information, books etc before I take the plunge and bash some metal

Anything by Ron Covell or Ron Fournier (not the political journalist) are a good start. Also have a browse of allmetalshaping.com.

The books all advise that there is no substitute for just having a bash, pun intended.

That's the general plan but always like to read up on stuff if I can, just for some general pointers

there's a good set up for cold forming on here, I'm going to give this method a go.

I reckon so, but the skill is knowing how hard to and where to hit it and when to stop, and that's where experience and practise comes in cos I don't think you can get that knowledge without trying it for real.

That reminds me I must source a length of channel next time i'm near a scrappie

and I was thinking Ive had a metre long piece of channel in my garage that I use for bending flanges on.....think it might get a few holes cut in it soon

Think I could manage the fairing but would struggle with the wheels and engine

The number of years ago that I discovered dustbin fairings is worrying, but I have never forgotten the skills shown.
Class, and that will be an end to it.

It does, and I think always will always amaze, the skill involved in producing something which is so stunningly 3D from a sheet of aluminium.

I have a lot of practising to do.

I really like the anvil type thingy wit holes etc, simple but very effective
