MicroMig 400 - TIG?

Hey, does anyone know if it's possible to get some sort of add-on to allow us to use our MicorMIG powerplant for DC TIG? Our TIG welder has decided not to play and it would be nice to just have one unit to do the roots and fill without buying a whole other machine. There is a button on the SWF unit that says TIG but when you cycle through the menu it never lights up and I also can't see how / where you would attach a torch.

Well you’d have to use a valved torch and it would be lift TIG or scratch start. Not a proper TIG unit.

MicorMigs are an inverter, but their main output is still CV, so that button in effect would just switch the output to CC, and make the wire feed knob or the voltage knob control amperage.

I think you’ll find that the TIG mode is an optional extra or only came on the more expensive models. The button may be there just so they didn’t have to make two different panels.

Okay, thanks Brad. Scratch start makes that a no-go for us. Back to plan A
