Mig wire

Hi, I'm reasonable new to mig welding, I've been using 0.8 wire but have been advised by T Tech I need to use their 0.6 wire for the 1mm steel plate I want to use.

They advertise two wires one is mig steel welding wire and the other mild steel mig welding wire what's the difference bearing in mind I'm using just ordinary, I guess, steel plate. Sorry if I'm being a bit of a numpty but this is all new to me.

"A18" is the grade of MIG wire you should be looking at.

0.8mm wire will be fine as long as you use appropriate voltage and wire speed. For me, the added risk of birds nesting outweighs the advantages you get with the thinner wire, although my mig torch has a 5m cable so is much more likely than the smaller hobby sets.

My machine has got 1mm wire in and I’ve welded lots of 1mm plate with it. All down to settings and techniques.

I think you mean R-tech, the two products are probably the same, use the mild steel welding wire, when i started out I tried using .6 dropped it in favour of .8, it's just technique, with .6 you have put more heat with greater wire feed not good on thin sheet.
