Hi guys.
Just started a refurb on my mighty midget stick welder..it's been sat hear for a year..Engine is a 12hp petrol kohler ..had no spark at the plug...cleaned and adjusted the points..still no spark..so am in the process of taking the flywheel off as there is a magneto underneath it..all parts are still available but might just want a good clean up.

Unusual for a K series Kohler to fail to spark once the points have been sorted. If all else fails (or you want a faster / easier not necessarily cheaper fix) you can get the universal ignition modules suitable for the K series engines: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KOHLER-EN...022043?hash=item33cff12f1b:g:OhoAAOxyRhBS3OZL. A hydraulic Power pack I bought from a member here a while ago came with one fitted and its never missed a beat.

has it got a low oil level cut out or a earth cut out that's shorted to earth before you pull it all apart

I am not sure to be honest. I used it a couple of times when I first got it.it was all working good..it sat in my shed for a year and now no
spark at all...

If the gasket between the points cover and the block is left out the cover can short out the points.
Also are the points closing fully and easily - the plunger can stick so that the points hang open.
The Nova or Meco solid stater modules that replace the points and condenser save a lot of hassle. The Nova (on the left) seems to be favoured for Kohlers

Be to far for you to travel bill...it would be a horrible boaring journey for you...and the cost of fuel.

This flywheel is being a right f to get of..I no this isn't the correct puller for this...other than heating the shaft or resort to making a big heavy duty puller.....
