Mill vice and oiler

I don't often post what I do on here, mainly because I am often in awe of what everyone else does, but here goes.

Bought a mangled mill vice of @Brad93 a while back. It's had a hard life, but it should be ok for a drill vice.

Dunked in citric acid for a couple of days gave me this....

Bit of JB weld and sanding to at least tidy it up.

And some lechler epoxy and fobco green paint from paragon paints...

Then, I realised I don't have an oiler.

Picked this up off the bay ...

No citric this time, just sanding, epoxy and grey (to match the mill I am restoring - it will be used on that)

I haven't got the jaws on the vice yet. Need to get some bolts.

You need a new nozzle too. That'll be an interesting little exercise.

Oh bugger - I just pushed the nozzle in and pulled the lever - seemed to go in.

You have done a good job there, I expect it will be plenty good enough for use on a drill press. You just need to invest in some parallels to keep the work off the vice and make sure it does not suffer any more rash.

You need a new nozzle too. That'll be an interesting little exercise.

Thread on the oil can does not look too special, it should be easy to turn up a brass nozzle for it.

Well done !!! I'm impressed - (super table in your first photo's....) - looking at the paint finish on your two items you have spraying equipment yes? It looks too good for a rattle can.

I just looked at my leaky old Wesco oiler in the shed, but my nozzle is soldered on, otherwise you could have had it.

When I tried to unscrew it for you I ended up twisting the spout, and when I looked closer I saw the solder...

Thank you. Table was my first welding project - bought it as a kit - tops only 6 mm so I think some of the heat distorted it, but it's good enough for an amateur! I'm finding it more and more useful by the day.

You are right with the paint - I had no hands on engineering experience growing up, but I get a kick out of doing stuff. My approach is to throw myself into stupid projects, and learn as I go along (sometimes at my own cost). I was trying to paint with a roller, and just wasn't happy with the finish, and spray cans are too expensive for big areas, and I liked the idea of epoxy, so I invested in a Fuji spray gun and I bam absolutely taken by it. Fantastic bit of kit - very easy to achieve a great finish. I find the paragon paints really good with it.
