Miller digital elite died. What next?

My miller digital elite packed in after 2.5 years use; started flashing on low amp tig and got worse not even responding constantly now to mig/arc on weld or x mode. tried changing batts for energiser CR2450 as recomended and still intermitant. Got a good arc eye other day of it in right eye sore as! not had that for years! Spoke to Tom at Welding supplies direct today and he recomends Jackson BH3 WH70? Might stick to the miller as not that many bad reports on web but are made in Korea. Other one is speedglas 9100xx Any thoughts?

you cant get arc eye from behind glass/ screen the uv is filtered out it would just be very bright

It's not arc eye your suffering with unless you got the flash from under your mask.
Snoop is right it's not possible to get arc eye through a welding mask even if it's not working or the batteries are dead. You can get an uncomfortable flash but the uv rays won't penetrate through it.

By the way. I borrowed a jackson off @Tom Orrow L for a couple of days and it's head and shoulders above the rest IMO.
Amazing optics and crazy long warranty.

well you didn't get from behind your screen, that's why you cant get a sun tan in a greenhouse, the uv cant get through

Ok have had arc eye from when i was young and daft and know how it feels. was about 4" from weld (in a tight spot) on high amps mig. i did not think it was arc flash but looking at my eye in mirror i have a very red/burnt shaped wedge. and had all the symptos of arc eye.

any cracks / damage to screen and why wedge shape it would have burnt full eye

Yes i thought so but i reinacted the position i was in (outside sunny) and the squint i had on at the time.

Not used the Miller before, speed glas are great but I prefer the Jackson. Optics on the wh70 are second to none.
I own a Viking 3350. They should also be on your short list.

Before you go splashing out on a new mask try leaving it in a sunny window for a few days, might rejuvenate it!

love my Speedglas its been well hammered, but they are pricey and I think there are masks well equal to it.

Remember You can get arc eye of the rays bouncing off summat and going under your shield or sneaking in from behind, we tend to forget that one.

Millers are made for the American market right hand drive arcs, you need left hand drive arc mask. ok I just made that up.

The Jackson wh70 I got is the dogs danglies I reckon .
5 year guarantee as well .
After keeping my precious tucked up in the garage for a while I thought I'd test it at work . Mma Outside in all weathers it's been dropped , knocked and generally abused . It's not missed a beat .
