Miller Dynasty 200 dx. Help-1 error

Hello.

Yesterday I started learning how to use my brand new Dynasty 200 DX.

So I started the welding machine after making all the connections properly... and after a few attempts of creating and arc in HF mode I got the HELP-1 Error on the display.

I did look at the user manual and I got a little bit scared because it tells me to take the machine to service.

I turned off and then I restarted again, to see if the problem was on the machine or was something related to me or my procedure.

Finally, I have discovered that if I push the torch trigger and for example the torch is far away from the work piece, them the arc can not start and then the error code appears again. If I try on a correct distance then the arc starts correctly and no error code is displayed.

So my question, is this normal or should I take the welder to service?

Hi Jon

Firstly I would double check that you have wired the mains plug correctly.
Being American the wire colours don't help, and as this machine runs on 110v, 240v or 3ph there's 4 wires in the cable.
For single phase one wire is not used, and since your in Spain I am not familiar with your electrical plugs.

Secondly check that your TIG switch is wired into the correct pins of the multi pin plug.
Looking at the socket on the welder that's top left and next one down & left.

Assuming single phase when switching the machine on the display reads mains volts and phases available.
In my case 221 -2 (221v & 2 phases missing)

With all the switches set to the correct positions if I press the torch switch in mid air I get a display showing
the volts & amps e.g. 79v 95a or whatever I'm set at. I don't get an error or help display.

The only time I get "error" or "HELP" is if I try to set something that it won't do.
e.g. try to set a switch that isn't available in that welding mode.

I suggest a long read of the manual and get an understanding of what each switch does, and then read it all again.

Thank you Paul for your fast answer.

After reading your message I have contacted the dealer to whom I bought the welder and they told me the same, is not normal. So they are going to bring me another new equipment in a few days. Meanwhile I can use the one I have.

So I am happy because I think it is the nicest way to solve a problem of this kind with a new welder.

The connections are OK, I have rechecked them a few times, also I have used different sockets of my installation. Here on Spain, the most common setup is single phase 230V 50 Hz, and we use schuko or europlugs.

And yes I am reading the owners manual, after a first fast read of the whole I am going to begin a slow deep read... because there is a lot of stuff there to asimilate. At first look the disposition of the control panel looks easy but there are a lot of hidden functions behind those buttons.

I hope my next posts will be more focused on tig welding.

Hi Jon,
I looked up your plugs on Wikipedia and as I understand it the euro plug is just 2 pin, so I assume you have the schuko plug
with green=E, white=L, black=N,
and the red wire not used.

I had difficulty fitting those huge wires into a 3 pin plug.
As you can see in the photo, compared to the water cooler plug next to it the welder plug just looks wrong.

Hello.

Finally I have received the new Dynasty and now all works perfect. No more errors.

My wiring set up is as follows (see the picture below). I have a 3 phase big socket and then a short cable to adapt from the big socket to work on single phase. Thus, when I am at home I can use the welder and from time to time I will use it on a friend's workshop and there it will work on 3 phases.
