milling tooling

More items of random tooling I have unearthed - Various tooling, couple are marked R8, along with collets and bits and bobs. Presume milling tooling - I think they came included with a lathe some years ago.

Second photo I thought was tool steel but some have machined ends - again any ideas?

The collets in the top right of the picture look like Clarkson Autolock collets. There is a boring bar ( top) see the incremental adjustment wheel on the side. The second cutter is a fly cutter for doing flat faces. The other tapered items appear to be collets - note the slots for driving out whatever they hold, usually a way of breaking a taper like on morse tapered drills. The split collet at the bottom maybe holds all the little boring cutters in the wooden block , the split would tighten up when the tapered bit was pulled into the machine. The taper type is an R8 used by Bridgeport and others. The tool holder is held in place by a drawbar. The device with the bolts is a driving dog , for turning between centres, part of a lathe.Bottom items , not a clue.

The bottom pic is dowel pins I believe, although others look like they have been shop made , might just be someones internal measuring plugs for I.D. turning etc.

First picture topish left is a Myford collet and closing ring. See: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/233744868004. Top right are Clarkson Autolock collets. Threaded ring, no idea. Piece with parallel shaft with flat, no idea. Flycutter on R8 shank. Boring head on R8 shank. R8 Jacobs taper arbor. The rusty one perhaps another Jacobs arbor, but it looks too big and not tapered. Two R8 to Morse adaptors. R8 collet. Kipp-style handle unknown thread. Drive dog (dividing head or grinder, not lathe). TCT boring tools.

I am not sure about the dowel pins theory. One end has a domed head, the other a chamfer. They might be taper pins. Rub on a file and see if they are hardened or not.

top 6 collets are for clarkson autolock . could be either imperial or metric

The cutting tools in the wooden block fit the boring head (big item lying diagonally at the top) . The part of the boring head that holds the cutter can be moved across the shank to enable an existing hole to be bored out.

Lower picture looks like arbors for tuning gears between centres, try measuring them probably slightly tapered.

Thanks for all replies. These came with a stack of lathe tooling and are no good to me as my mill is a small Warco with MT2 taper, so yes they are all for sale, I will list them properly at some point, I’m just trying to make sense of what I’ve got - spent all afternoon sorting hundreds of taps out!

Regarding the second photo, these are solid bars not tubes. The larger ones are finished properly on both ends. I’ll take some more photos tomorrow.
