Mini CNC (desktop) machine recommendations please

As per title chaps. I’ve never got into anything like it, not even 3D printing although I’m fine around computers and software. Something which can make small stuff for me in metal, plastic or wood is what I’m after but I really have no idea where to start. What’s good, what’s not etc. Rather not have chinesium stuff as I’m more interested in something which takes decent tooling.

As a first step, maybe look at the Taig/Peatol machine (CNC-ready from Peatol, full bells and whistles from https://medw.uk/wiki/). If it's good enough to build Binky, it will be good enough for you.
