Mini crucible

Ideal for tinning cables without frying/melting the sheath.
Idea stolen from elsewhere and thought I would try it, mini crucible using a 15mm or 22mm copper pipe cap and a gurt soldering iron.

22mm copper plumbing cap perched on a gurt soldering iron in a vice, probably a good idea to copper wire it into place.

Add some full fat plumbing solder.

Leave for about fifteen minutes

A drop of flux and dip cable end.

I've seen similar for soldering the ends of throttle cables, a tiny pot, with an electric heater under it.

you still have to dip the cable in long enough before the core gets up to melting temperature for the solder to take shrinking the insulation back i just flux them and tin em with thin solder stick and a blowtorch and dip in water as soon as solder has taken to dissipate heat

I have always stripped cable ends a bit shorter to allow for shrink back and then tin normally. I can see a pot would be easier on a production line it all depends on how many you do
