Missing Regulator?

On a used compressor I have bought there seems to be a regulator missing pre outlet. Tank pressure gauge yes. I suppose it doesn't matter when I will be regulating at the gun end?

you can put a mini regulator on the gun end with flying lead if required

it may have been removed because it started leaking or simply an attempt to improve airflow

If everything you connect can work at full tank pressure or has it's own regulator then it isn't an issue

only slight downside is your hose run is at full 100-150 psi not reduced down but provided hose is specified for it shouldn't really matter

They don't always, or even usually come with regulators at the tank end. Perhaps it is more common on smaller units but none of mine or the ones I've encountered have come with them attached.

It is also not a great place to have a regulator. You want it at the end of the pipework closest the output, same with the water trap.
In addition, if you have multiple take off points you really want a regulator at each point, rather than adjusting the entire system at the tank end as you may wish to run different equipment at different pressures.

stick a decent half inch regulator filter on the end of the tank if it has a bung in it . may need a reducer fitted if it has . then u have the best of both worlds
